It’s Pop interviewer Juanito Cinco sat down with Kassidy Murray and John Lambert, previously known to the rock world as two musical acts, Santogold and Lambert, now to be unleashed on the world as S-n-L. The two recently came together as one act and will soon be embarking on a world tour together. This is the first interview they’ve given as a band. As they enter the conference room here at Siren Call Records, they’re clearly two different people. John brings to mind a kind of laid-back, old school rocker. When Kassidy bounds through the door, her energy almost writes the interview by itself. IP: Tell us about each of you as individuals. Kassidy: Hey, I'm Kassidy Murray, formerly of Santogold. I also shake my booty a little on stage. I'm 26 years old, representing New York baby! John: John Lambert, Age 23, Lead Singer and Electric Guitarist. IP: Still individually: What does the name of your band mean? John: Lambert is my last name silly. Kassidy: I wanted something different and unique. My best friend in high school's name was Santi. And he passed away about 2 years before I started the band. He loved music and was someone I look up to and still miss so much. So I dedicated the band to him. I added the gold because he always had a gold earring in his ear. IP: How long have you all known each other? How did you meet? Kassidy:I’ve seen John around the studio, didn’t really know him. Our producer put us together, thinking we might be more successful as a band instead of two separate acts. IP: How do you promote your band and shows? Kassidy: I just wanna play as many shows as possible to promote the band. I wanna be the artist that the fans can count on. John: I leave that to the crew. They are the professionals at that, not me. I am just in it for the music. IP: What are some of your pet peeves? Kassidy: My pet peeves are cursing and biting nails. John: Well, people you've been loyal to who don't want to be your friends anymore. IP: What are some of the biggest obstacles you’ve faced as a band? John: Had a partner who basically quit the band, fell into drugs, and is now lying 6 feet under. Kassidy: Getting my first single as Santogold to sell well. No one has bought it yet so let's just say that is an obstacle I haven't overcome quite yet. IP: What's the best and worst thing about playing clubs? Kassidy: Best thing is the audience. I love hearing them sing along. It gets me pumped up. Worst thing is that some clubs don't like to pay the rider. John: You always get the chance to interact with the fans. They're the ones who we are playing for anyway. IP: Tell us about your next show and why we should be there. John: Our next show is the first of an upcoming tour at all the Hatebreeder Clubs across the world. Fortunately, we get to kick it off the right way in New York. IP: How does it feel to be starting your first world tour? Kassidy: I feel so weird. I didn't expect all of this to happen so soon. I'm extremely happy and excited. John: It feels wonderful. I cannot wait to show the world how we can rock it. IP: How are you preparing for your tour? Kassidy: Practice, Practice, Practice. John: Well, we are trying to come out with some new material to surprise the fans with. Plus we have a new single coming out. IP: What's after this tour? Are you going to do an album or are you going to keep touring? John: First thing I do is take a week off to rest! After that, Probably do a few random shows while we work on a new Album. IP: If there was any artist you could perform with who would it be? Kassidy: Avenged Sevenfold. The Rev's legacy will live on. John: I already get to perform with the Angels of Hellfire so I am getting my wish. IP: You're opening for Angels of Hellfire on this world tour. Will you stick around to watch their show each night? John: Depends on the drive. We only have so many hours to get from one show to the next. Hopefully I will be able to catch all of theirs. Kassidy: Stick around, definitely! IP: Who were you in high school? Jock? Nerd? Something else? John: I was an nerdy jock. *Laughs* I took all honors classes and still played three seasons of sports. Kassidy: The average girl. I was popular and had friends. That was then, this is now. IP: What's your craziest fan story? John: Well, this one time, I came back into the dressing room after a show and found a naked fan waiting on the couch in there for me. Let's say I played more than just the guitar that evening. IP: Is there anything you would like to say to your fans before we go? John: No except to all my fans around the world, I am coming to your area so we can all rock on! Kassidy: Thanks for all the support. You won’t regret it! By Juanito Cinco. Written for the city of Melbourne. Article ID 36862 Comments are closed.
