Blink 81 is a modern rock band that’s seen its share of complications. Members living overseas, hospitalizations, arrests, you name it, this band has gone through some interesting things on their road to stardom. In the past year, they’ve been really making a name for themselves. Juanito Cinco caught up with them after a quick practice in Copenhagen, and asked them a few questions.
IP: What is everyone’s role in the band?
Joel: I’m the lead singer and guitar player
Blake: I’m on drums
Ania: Guitar player and back-up vocals
Sean: I play bass
IP: How long have you all known each other? How did you meet?
Joel: It's been a long time since I've met Blake Ramsey…A few years. We got to be friends then I invited him to my band. We found the 2 others during a tour. It was hard at the beginning to find two good members
Blake: I forgot how I met Ania, but I saw Sean at a gig when we were playing in London, and I knew we needed him
IP: Blake, you’re recently re-married. How are things going this time around?
Blake: Well, things are hard with Andrea being in a another band, but I was prepared for that already with Taryn. Things got really messy for a little while, she had something of a relationship with one of the guys in the band, and it did nothing for my jealousy issues.
IP: We’ve heard a lot rumors about your split with Taryn McLoughlin of Angels of Hellfire. What’s the truth?
Blake: It wasn’t messy and bitter at all, like the magazines are saying. We’re still good friends. We probably should have been just friends all along. I was young and wanted to make my mother happy, she’s someone who enjoys being loved. She’d just been stood up at the altar when we met, so we got married. (He shrugs) I often go to her now when I’m freaking out about being away from Andrea. She calms me down.
IP: Tell us about your next show and why we should be there.
Joel: We have a big tour schedule.. So many cities in 3 months…
Blake: You should be there because we’ll be there!
Ania: The group will do is best to make new people know us..
IP: How does it feel to be on your first world tour?
Joel: It's a great adventure for me, hope everything will be ok, not loosing someone on travel
Blake: I’m so pumped! Can’t wait to get out there. We’ve been to most of those cities already, can’t wait to hit the rest of them!
Ania: It feels so great because it's my first one and I'm really looking forward for this
Sean: It feels AWESOME. Like I accomplished something great... Well in my case I have. I have a bad habit of ending up in the hospital when we travel, so I’m crossing my fingers that everything goes okay!
IP: You’ll be opening for Angels of Hellfire. Blake, how will this affect you, personally?
Blake: I couldn’t be happier. Senia, Taryn, and Richard are some of my best friends, and this will be a great experience for our son. He’s been on three tours already in his young life, two with T and one with me. This way he gets to travel with both of us together.
IP: What's after this tour? Are you going to do an album or are you going to keep touring?
Joel: Probably a album. Maybe we'll be ready to do it before the tour. It's always important to relax a little after a tour, especially a big one like this.
IP: What's your favorite song from the last album?
Joel: Break'N Go, ‘Cause it spoke to me. I was in a sad period when I wrote it… love separation but we always need to go through it…
Blake: Andrea might kill me for this, but one of my favorites will always be Apartment 4F. Taryn and I wrote it together, and AoH released it on their record as well. My second favorite is called Seven Seconds, you’ll hear it on the next album. It’s basically about how long it took me to fall for Andrea.
Ania: My favourite is Never Walk Alone.
Sean: I’m gonna say...Driving Miss Daisy
IP: Is there anything you would like to say to your fans before we go?
Joel: I love you all!
Blake: Thanks so much for all your support! We’d never be able to do what we do without you.
Ania: Just come and enjoy the show!
Sean: Thank you so much for your support, love, and coming to our shows. We love you all.
